This season, the slouchy, rolled pant is everywhere!  It’s great also because since they’re so loose, you can wear them in the summer, look hip, and not melt to death!  So it took me awhile to figure out how to properly wear these pants…

The first thing I learned is, the BIGGER, the better :)   I first tried to roll the pant legs of my regular dress pants… but this just looked really silly.  Then I found a pair of  size 14  pants at RW&Co. on the sale rack for $10!  SO I got these, and they worked SO much better!  You can probably even take your boyfriend/husband’s dress pants and do this too.  I like them bigger too because you can scrunch the top and have the paper-bag look. Here’s two examples of pants I found that work well…

Hi Everyone!

So for spring/summer 2010, everywhere you look, you see the side braid!  From the runway, magazines, and on the streets.  Last year, the milkmaid braid was all the rage (The french braided bang), but now, the braid has evolved into a soft, boho style side braid that is loose and messy.

So how to achieve this look without looking dull and flat?

Here’s a little step by step guide on how I would do it…

Here’s the starting hair (Any guesses on who my lush-locked model is ;P)

1) Texturize!!!  Before you do anything, you have to prep your hair so it’s the right texture.  If you already have wavy or curly hair, put in a curl enhancer or mousse to amp up those curls.  If you have stick straight hair like mine, put in a defining cream so that your hair is more workable and the braid will stay put.
2) Backcomb your hair close to your head to give your hair lift (Again.. this look does not look the same if your hair is flat against your head!) *Tip* spray hairspray close to your head and work in the spray so your teasing stays longer

3) Part your hair whichever way you want (Middle or side both work), but make sure you don’t touch your hair too much at this point because you want to keep that lift and texture you have already created.

4) Take the section of your hair from your part down to your ears.

5) Braid your hair, but don’t’ do it too tight..the nice part is that it is supposed to look a little loose. (So you don’t have to make the braid look perfect)

6) Tie the braid with the rest of your hair to one side with a cloth hair elastic (Or anything that comes out easily without snagging).  This is so your french braid doesn’t come undone.

7) Braid the side ponytail, tie the end with a small elastic (Preferably one that matches your hair color), and take out the cloth elastic.

8 ) Gently tug on your braid to loosen it.  Also, if the top looks a little flat, take the end of your comb and gently lift the roots (The spray and teasing will come back to life :D )

9) To finish off your look, spray your finger tips with hairspray and smooth out your fly-aways. (Especially on your bangs).

I hope you enjoyed my little tutorial!  If you were able to try out this look, I would love to see it!! Send me pictures of your attempt!  Also, if there are any other hair style you want to see, e-mail:  huaphotography@gmail.com under the heading: Hair Styling and I will be sure to get around to it!

May your days be filled with fabulous hair!

For those of you who have ever taken professional photos, one thing you probably always fuss about is what to wear!  Many times, you think that everything (and everyone in the picture) needs to be all matching…. wrong! Different colors and texture really adds to pictures and is really a way of showing your personality.  This is really the time to put on that favorite outfit because you want pictures when you look and feel your best.

Of course, this rule does not apply all the time, for instance, during newborn and baby shoots, you want those pictures  where everyone wears all black or white to portray a certain style, but for those casual, playful shots, layer on those colorful favorites!  Even a simple scarf, or an awesome pair of shoes makes a big difference.

Here are some examples of our past shoots where our clients clothes really liven up their pictures and their personalities…

This couple is looking super chic with little matching details which look effortless.  Very Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

I love the outfit of every person, and especially the different patterns and textures.  It really adds to the playfulness of the photo (and shows how super cool this family is!)

I love layering!!  This couple’s style totally shows off their edginess and playful personality through the awesome retro shoes, tall boots, and  layered jackets.

I couldn’t resist putting up this photo of our amazing make-up artist Elaine! I love the bright green scarf she is wearing.  Even though it is such a simple detail, it adds a lot of character to the picture.  Even the smallest thing like a colorful scarf or chunk necklace can make a big difference!

Feel free to post any questions or concerns about anything style related, and I’d be happy to help!
